Alright, I’m finally feeling well enough to be coherent for at least some amount of time longer than 140 characters. And just in time, as there was a pretty busy trading deadline that we just finished up with. Let’s take a quick look at the so-called Winners and Losers of the day, because everything in life is immutably binary. NO SHADES OF GREY ALLOWED IN PUNDITRY.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Yeeah! How bout them fellas, pickin up a good catcher in Chris Snyder for essentially nothing useful, and then flipping a couple of middling relievers (Octavio Dotel and Javier Lopez) for a handful of useful prospects in pitchers James McDonald and Joe Martinez and outfielders Andrew Lambo and John Bowker? Kudos to Neal Huntington for adding good pieces and sending away some of the organizational chaff.

Chicago Cubs

Minor win, but I like Blake DeWitt more than Ryan Theriot at this point in their respective careers, and the guys they got back for Ted Lilly (Brett Wallach and Kyle Smit) look like they could develop into useful major league parts down the road.
