Wandy was a strike throwing machine through 3 innings – struck out the side in the second, swinging. He struck out the side in the 4th, too, after FIRST giving up a double to the LF bullpen, a opposite field line drive homer that just cleared the fence near the RF flagpole, then a double off the RF bullpen, then a double off the scoreboard - 3 runs. 4 pitches, all mid plate, flat FB. Don’t know what happened there…

He started off with an 8 pitch walk in the 5th, but then got 3 outs – even with a WP. Another walk in the 6th, but 3 outs, the last 2 swinging. 1,2,3 in the 7th. 7 IP – 4 H, 4 W, 3 R, 13 K – his personal K record.

Recently, Heath Evans decided to retire as a fullback and join the NFL Network (as recorded in this post: http://wp.me/ppN7T-1Bv). We interviewed the ex-Saint, Patriot, Dolphin and Patriot for National Football Authority and discussed his retirement, his foundation, and also the commonalities between the Saints’ and Patriots’ success. The college football season starts in 2 days with a unusually weak opening Thursday.  Saturday puts the season in full gear with blockbuster games featuring LSU vs Oregon and Boise St. vs. Georgia.  In this episode, Brad and I make our week 1 picks against the spread from each conference.  We also look for the potential big week 1 upsets.  Finally, we break down this weekend’s tv schedule, so you know what games to watch and when.

Brad’s world famous weekly college football picks are back!  If you recall, I got off to a red hot start with my picks last year before finishing with a perfectly mediocre 75-75 record.  In 2009, however, I posted an impressive 78-62 mark, and I hope to replicate that kind of success this season.  All of the spreads below are from the World Sports Exchange’s opening lines and are ordered based on my personal confidence in each.

In Fantasy Football there is nothing worse than making a draft pick that does not pan out. How about that pick that was a “lock”, then the player goes down for the year with an ACL injury? One way to counteract the infamous draft “busts” is doing your homework and finding players that the average fan may not know. A key component for continuous success throughout the fantasy season is the ability to discover hidden gems in the waiver wire.

This past season players that were available on the wire in most leagues were Michael Vick, Peyton Hillis and Danny Woodhead. These players all were pleasant surprises last year.

Vick came out of nowhere for the Eagles, initially many speculated that the scrambling QB would serve in more of a wildcat role, boy were we wrong. The former Atlanta Falcon QB had a season in which he found himself in the conversation for the MVP only to lose to Tom Brady, not bad for a “wildcat” QB.

Dissection of a Classic Cardinals picture is a systemic byproduct of the need to fill space during a lame duck season coupled with an off-day. So let’s get to.

FunnyCardsPic1
1 – We’ve all been. You’re buddy starts to break himself off a little something something and you can’t just sit there and watch, right? Blue’s aversion to everything about situation is not only familiar, it’s heroic. No CBing today.

2 – That awkward period of baseball where the long pants over the cleats wasn’t the norm, but the thigh-highs were on their way out. Leaving 2″ will never, ever comeback.

3 – My word. Have you ever seen tighter pants on a baseball player? Were these Dri-Fit?
