The Bears have finally landed a No. 1 wide receiver. It is one that is very familiar with QB Jay Cutler and quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates.
Brandon Marshall was traded to the Bears today after two seasons in Miami in exchange for a third-round pick in this year’s draft and a third-round pick in the 2013 draft.
Cutler and Marshall had a ton of success together in their time in Denver. They’re now reunited and I’m sure Cutler and Co. is very excited.
The trade is at a very reasonable price.
The Bears dispose of their extra third-round pick that they received from Carolina this past off-season in the Greg Olsen trade. They also send next year’s third-round pick.
The Bears have to pay the rest of the contract that the Dolphins inked with Marshall in 2010 when they acquired him.
The four-year, $47.5 million extension that he signed has two years remaining.
Cutler and Marshall spent three seasons together in Denver. Marshall caught over 200 passes for over 2800 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The two have a special connection together and especially with Jeremy Bates coming over as the quarterbacks coach for the Bears this move looks even better.
Its certainly a Denver reunion in the Windy City. This could move the Bears into the serious contender category in the NFC.
Marshall caught just around 80 passes the past two seasons, while averaging over 1,000 yards and 4.5 touchdowns.
Marshall joins Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald and Atlanta’s Roddy White as the only NFL players to have over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the last five years.
With Brandon Marshall do you think the Bears have a shot at the Super Bowl next season?
Check the odds at different online sports betting sites to see how this transaction is affecting the Bears chances and while you are there you might decide you want to bet on sports such as the NFL next season.
The Bears can now move their attention to the de?fensive line, specifically the defensive end position. They will likely also look at tight end, cornerback and offensive line.
Mario Williams would be an amazing addition for the Bears, but it may come down to the price. Williams is reportedly visiting Buffalo tonight, so stay tuned on that end.
This is a great start to free agency for the Bears. Marshall coming over to Chicago gives them the wide receiver they have been lacking for a long time.
