Exciting Niners Prospectus

Remember the scene in "Major League" where Charlie Sheen's character throws the baseball inside the manager's office because he's been tricked into thinking he was waived or sent to the minors by the manager? That makes me think of TE Vernon Davis... in an absolutely positive way! The manager then tells Sheen that he likes that type of fire in his player's, and you know what, I like that fire Vernon Davis has been showing in the past few weeks. It makes me feel proud to be a longtime 49er fan. He's had several touchdowns since Coach Singletary took over, including the one overturned yesterday against the Bills. At this rate he could get 10 touchdowns next season along with being an all-pro selection.

Now let's turn to a review of the game against Buffalo. QB Shaun Hill had a good Joe Montana-Tom Brady 1st superbowl type of game: Under 200 yds of passing but good judgment and instincts all around. It would have been over 200 if not for the penalty on Davis's faux score. The defense led by LB Patrick Willis who had 10 tackles(14 according to the Contra Costa Times but 10 on NFL.com), was good but not great due to allowing Buffalo RB Lynch several long runs. However the red zone defense prevented any TDs. The hopes for the Niners must be to continue this at home next week against the NY Jets and that longtime nemesis of the 49ers known only as Brett Favre. The negative for the game that can always stand improvement is in the turnover category. Hill and Frank Gore both fumbled twice and turned the ball over once each. In comparison the opposition had two missed field goals, two fumbles lost, and two fourth down failures so essentially the Niners won that category 2-6, less is more. The running game will also need to break through the 100 yd mark in the coming weeks to beat stronger oppositions.

Playoffs chances: If the Arizona Cardinals lose every game and the Niners win every game then we will remember this season for a long-time. But if the Niners are just able to keep the games as interesting and thrilling as they've been since Coach Singletary and Shaun Hill have been in the highlights, then each Sunday for the next month will be ones Niner fans can enjoy.
