“God, I wish this was a lot closer than what it is right now.”
−Paula Creamer, speaking to her caddie about a putt to extend playoff
ANNIKA SORENSTAM parred the first playoff hole to beat Paula Creamer in the Stanford International Pro-Am. It was her second win of the season and 71st career victory.
“I’m very relieved and happy and excited at the same time.” Sorenstam said. “I thought I played very well and so did Paula. She played excellent.”
I’m sure Creamer would love to have another roll at her last putt, a six-foot knee-knocker for par. She left it short.
Paula admitted to a severe case of the shakes.
“I kind of went over to Colin and said, God, I wish this was a lot closer than what it is right now,” Creamer said. “But you know, he just told me confidence.
“My hands were shaking so much I probably should have gripped it a little harder so I would’ve actually followed through. But that was just, you know, caustic nerves and not being in that kind of situation before.”
Next up for Annika: winning a tournament when You Know Who is in the field.
