How Paula Creamer Adjusts to the Pink Ball

Covering this week’s Michelob Ultra Open in Williamsburg, Virginia, Rich Radford of the Virginian-Pilot wrote a piece about rising LPGA Tour star Paula Creamer. Creamer plays a pink ball, but only on Sundays.

“People always ask, ‘How do you go from white balls to a pink ball?’” Creamer said in the story.

Yeah, good point. That does seem like it would be a distraction, especially if you’re leading the tournament. But Paula has a workable system for the switch.

Precept sends her pink practice and tournament balls every week. On Sundays Creamer warms up on the range with the pink balls. By game time, her eyes have adjusted and she’s ready to go.

“If I really thought it was going to mess me up on Sunday, of all days, I probably wouldn’t be playing the pink ball.”

Creamer won the SemGroup Championship last week in a playoff with Juli Inkster for her sixth career title and second win this year.

I love Paula Creamer’s golf game and I always root for her but I think her pink golf ball looked out of place at the US Open. Furthermore, I don’t think a pink ball will ever win the US Open.
