Sweet deal? Not exactly: IndyCars to keep running on corn-based ethanol (UPDATED!)

Brazilian ethanol producers will supply at least part of the 100,000+ gallon supply of fuel for the IndyCar Series in the 2009 season.

IRL-O-Rama gets credit for the catch on this story from the AP, which states that IRL commercial division boss Terry Angstadt has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Brazil's biofuel promotion agency -- APEX-Brasil. That much is true.

But instead of bringing their own sugarcane-based version of ethanol to the series, IndyCar.com reports that APEX-Brasil is enlisting UNICA (the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association) to help gauge interest from ethanol companies in supplying the series and link up with an American-based company to give the IndyCars the same corn-based fuel that has powered them since 2007.

The memorandum was signed yesterday in Sao Paulo, Brazil between Angstadt and ApexBrasil's president Alessandro Teixeira.

Well, I guess we can forget about me saying that sugarcane was gonna be going into Dallaras next year. But with that said, I still think we're not gonna see EPIC back as a sponsor for Rahal-Letterman Racing in 2009. Looks like Ryan Hunter-Reay's gonna be beating some pavement real soon.
