Aussies look to seal Gold Coast IndyCar race for 2008

My normal testing recap will be posted a bit later than usual tonight, since I have some non-racing business to attend to. However, before I take off for a while, I wanted to pass along that the leaders of the Gold Coast Indy 300 in Surfer’s Paradise, Australia are now en route to Indianapolis to nail down a deal with the Indy Racing League to stick their event on the 2008 IndyCar Series schedule.

In this press release that was put out today, officials from the Rexall Grand Prix of Edmonton (Alberta, Canada) will also be joining the Aussies and the IndyCar officials in a forthcoming meeting that should finalize their races’ participation in this season’s campaign.

Speaking of the Edmonton event, their people are confident that a final date for their event will be reached in short order. The Edmonton Journal reported last week they’re cool with moving the race back a week from their original date of July 18-20, 2008, in order to keep the folks at Mid-Ohio happy. The Lexington, Ohio-based road course will hold their IRL event during that same weekend.
