Tony Kanaan on pole for St. Petersburg!
Andretti Green Racing’s Tony Kanaan will start on the pole position for tomorrow’s Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg after winning the Firestone Fast Six qualifying session.
Kanaan (1 minute, 2.5322 seconds at 103.627 m.p.h.) told IMS Radio Network reporter Jake Query that the pole was “a great comeback” for himself and his team after their near-miss at Homestead-Miami Speedway last week. Starting in the front row alongside Kanaan will be KV Racing Technology’s Will Power (1 min, 2.6096 secs.; 103.499 m.p.h.), who earned second place on the grid.
Row 2 will feature Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing’s Justin Wilson in P3 and two-time defending St. Petersburg winner Helio Castroneves in fourth. The third row has Team Penske’s Ryan Briscoe on the inside and Rahal Letterman Racing’s Ryan Hunter-Reay on the outside.
