Turbochargers on the way for 2011 IndyCar season?
The question of whether or not turbocharged engines will return to open-wheel racing for the 2011 IndyCar Series season may have been decided during today’s engine manufacturer/building summit at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Curt Cavin of The Indianapolis Star was able to get this peach of a quote from the IRL’s commercial racing boss Terry Angstadt:
“When we heard the enthusiasm around the room as to what turbochargers could bring to the series, I don’t think that will be a barrier at all.”
Looks like we’re heading back to bandying about terms like “popoff valves” and “boost levels” on a regular basis. As I’ve stated, I don’t really care all that much about this matter of turbos vs. NA (normally aspirated) engines, so I’d like to hear your takes on it.
