Tony Kanaan fractures wrist, but will compete today at Watkins Glen
Tony Kanaan will have to gut out today’s Camping World Grand Prix at the Glen after sustaining a hairline fracture on his left wrist during an accident in today’s morning warm-up session at Watkins Glen International. The 2004 IndyCar champion spun out in Turn 6 and smashed rear-end-first into the tire barriers.
Kanaan blamed a suspension failure for the incident, which won’t keep him out of today’s 60-lap battle (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC). He told IndyCar.com’s Dave Lewandowski that this isn’t new territory for him:
“I’ll try to manage the pain, but it’s not the first time I will have a pain in [the] wrist. Once you’re in the car, sometimes with the adrenaline, I’m hoping it will go away. I’m a fighter. I’m not going to give up.”
He’ll start sixth in the race.
