Wizards out to worst start in franchise history
There's a reason I haven't written many articles on the Wizards lately: there simply isn't much to say. I am a very optimistic thinker and I try to find the good in all things, but there simply isn't much good going on with this team right now. Unless you think Caron Butler basically playing by himself is positive, the rest of this team is simply horrendous. I applaud Jamison for playing through the thumb sprain, but he should really shut it down for a while. The results will be the same with or without him.
The latest news was from Deshawn Stevenson prior to Tuesday's loss to Charlotte when he asked Coach Tapscott to play him with the second unit so he can get his swagger back against the other team's back-ups. On one hand, it is really sad that a professional athlete rather ride the bench and play against lesser competition where he should have more success. On the other hand, we're talking about Deshawn Stevenson here; who was really playing above his head last year and may struggle against the other team's back-ups. That was the one resigning that everyone overlooked in the offseason that the Wizards really should never have done. I think he really is a bench warmer who has to start on a bad team. If he were on the Lakers, Celtics or the Cavs, he wouldn't start, but the Wizards simply have no better option. After watching tonight's loss, I don't think it really matters whether they start him or not; the results seem to be the same.
The real problem is who is starting the fourth quarter. This team simply has no tenacity when the fourth quarter rolls around. They give up easy baskets, leave players wide open for threes, and consistently miss open shots. Tapscott seems to be doing everything in his power to shake this team up, but they need to play whoever is hot or whoever is playing the most intense defense in the fourth quarter. Tonight, that guy was Darius Songalia. I've been down on him for a while, but he was our second best player tonight on both ends of the floor.
Unfortunately, there isn't much the Wiz can do at this point in the season except explore more trade options. The bad part of that is they only have one real valuable asset: Caron Butler. If they trade him, they probably won't win another game this season unless they get a superstar in return. I'm at a loss for answers to their current woes - is there anyone in cyber space with an answer?

You are eight, there is nothing good to say about this team at all. Coming off of yet another 4th quarter lead blowing effort against Cleveland, the inability just continues to mount. As I said in one of my previous comments, the problems with this team can and should be laid right at the feet of Ernie Grunfield. Outside of bringing Caron and Jameson here, he has done nothing. This team has had zero defensive presence in years. Eddie Jordan took the fall for his team not being able to play defense. Well you can't force a square peg into a round hole. This team has never had defensive players. Especially from the center position. Brendon Haywood, though he played much better last year, was not and is not a defensive player. This is why I keep harping on the decisions by this team in addressing their front court needs. For years we have watched Etan Thomas and Brendon Haywood and now we watch Blatche who is more of an offensive player (on some nights)stop no one in the paint. Each of the final games in the playoffs the last two or three years, we have lost in the final moments by a Layup!! At some point you have to invest in a defensive roll player. far to often Ernie Grundield pulls the trigger to acquire offensive players that he thinks can be groomed into playing defense. What about a defensive player that might give you 4-6 points a game but will give you 5 or 6 blocks and 5 or 6 charges? Ed Tapscott is doing the best he can with what Grundield has given, just as Eddie Jordan was. This team falls apart game after game after game in the 4th qtr because they have no defensive players. Jordan didn't pick'em, Tapscott didn't pick em. Grunfield did and he needs to take a lot of the heat for the hapless pieces he has put in place that will have the wizards lose 40 games by the all-star break. They need to sit Gilbert for the rest of the year, limit the minutes of Caron and Antawn after the All-star break and give their entire young squad more of an opportunity play, learn and showcase as trade bait and begin looking at what moves will be made in the off season.

I agree. Check out my latest "Scrooge McWizard" article about this very subject.
