Recap from 4/10
Iowa 9 Albuquerque 7 - Felix Pie is certainly handling a trip back to Iowa nicely, isn’t he? Pie went 2-5 with a double and his 1st homerun of the year, actually dropping his batting average to .474. Pie also struck out for just the 2nd time this season, which matches the number of walks he has taken. Fellow spring training mates, Micah Hoffpauir (3-4, HR, 4 RBIs) and Buck Coats (1-5 HR) homered as well. On the mound Hector Almonte (1-0) took the win with 2 perfect innings while striking out 3. JR Mathes started the game and had his second consecutive rough outing in AAA, going 4 innings, giving up 3 ERS and an umimpressive 8 hits.
Peoria 8 Burlington 3 - One of my “Rested Ones”, Jose Ceda, made his first appearance of the year and posted prospect-like stats. Ceda (1-0) earned the win going 5 innings, giving up 3 hits, 2 ERs, 2 walks, and struck out 8, while the Italian, Alex Maestri (S, 1) went 2 perfect innings in relief to earn the save in the rain-shortened game. Russ Canzler was the offensive star, going 3-3 at the plate with a double and a triple and his second stolen base, while Wellington Castillo and Josh Lansford each homered for the first time this season.
Notes: Tennessee had the day off, while Daytona’s game was postponed due to weather. With the slow day, here’s another nugget for you to chew, Royals outfielder Joey Gathright jumping over a car.
