Game Recaps (4/27/08)
Tacoma 0, Tucson 4 (ARI - 14)
In this first start back in triple-A, RHP R.A. Dickey (2.45, L) ran into some trouble, allowing four runs (two earned) to score on eleven hits, two walks, and two strikeouts over seven innings. LHP Cesar Jimenez (3.55) would allow a hit and strike out a pair in the eighth.
C Jeff Clement (.384), keeping his OBP at an extraordinary level, had a single and two more walks in this one. DH Jeremy Reed (.324) also drew two walks from the leadoff spot. Of course, the other big piece of news of the day was that Balentien took the field again for the first time since the nineteenth. He didn’t do much at the plate, but at least he’s back.
West Tenn 4, Tennessee 0 (CHC - 6)
RHP Chris Jakubauskas (0.93, W) got through seven scoreless innings with just four hits, two walks, and two Ks and I still have no idea how he does it. RHP Brodie Downs (4.38) had a hit, a walk, and a strikeout to show for the next inning, and then RHP Mumba Rivera (1.89) walked one and struck out two in the ninth.
C Adam Moore (2B, HR, 2 R, .275) had three hits in the game, including a home run in the second inning that really provided all the scoring the D-Jaxx needed. 2B Luis Valbuena (2B, RBI, .349), temporarily in the leadoff spot, and 1B Marshall Hubbard (R, .372) both had two hits and SS Mark Kiger (.207) had a single and a walk.
Bakersfield 5 (TEX 0), High Desert 2
RHP Keith Renaud (7.13, L) had his record fall to 0-3, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits, a wild pitch, a balk, a hit batter, and five walks against one K through five innings. I think it could’ve been worse. LHP Jose Escalona (2.00) gave up one more run on two hits, a wild pitch, a walk, and a K over the next two frames, and in the final two, LHP Michael Wagner (2.08) rung up two.
3B Leury Bonilla (2B, RBI, .211) had a couple of hits and LF James McOwen (2B, R, .264) and CF Gregory Halman (2B, R, .253) both doubled. Overall, it wasn’t a great night for the offense, especially considering they were playing at home.
Beloit 5 (MIN - 5), Wisconsin 3
The good news out of Appleton today was that RHP Michael Pineda (0.75), the other nineteen-year-old right-hander on the roster, had his first start of the season and went five innings, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out two. The bad news was that, with a 2-0 lead, the T-Rats called in RHP Rob Harmon (16.62, L) and his outing unfolded like this: single, stolen base, strikeout on wild pitch, runners on first and second, hit batter, grand slam, walk. I had been listening to the game up until that point, but when the slam came I decided my attentions would be better diverted to Felix Day, and I was right, at least up until the eighth inning. Well, for the T-Rats’ part, RHP Ryan Moorer (3.86) came in and let Harmon’s remaining runner score, but otherwise went three innings allowing just one hit and striking out one. Nice production, and all the more nice had it come earlier. RHP Shawn Kelley (0.00) would barely maintain his perfect ERA, allowing three hits but striking out two in the ninth.
3B Alex Liddi (2B, SB, .273) had a double and a couple of walks in the game, RF Eddy Hernandez (2B, R, .208) had his first double of the season along with a walk, though the double was a bit of a gift, as I got the impression it popped out of the outfielder’s glove, and 1B Ron Garth (2B, .205) also had a double. LF Calvin Beamon (RBI, .258) added two singles.

Again with Mumba “Steaming Pile” Rivera in during a fairly close game. This guy shouldn’t see the mound unless the D-Jaxx are up or down by 10.
