Olmedo Heads East…
…. east to Philadelphia, that is.
Ray Olmedo, who was placed on waivers to make room on the Pirates’ 40-man roster for pitcher Byung-Hyun Kim, was claimed this afternoon by the Phillies. The Pirates were hoping that they could keep Olmedo in camp and competing for an infield job. They knew they were taking a chance by putting Olmedo on waivers, and this time, their luck didn’t hold.
The Pirates will play their first game tomorrow, against Manatee Community College. Yoslan Herrera will be the starting pitcher, with several others also slated to get in a few innings.
