7/3/08 MiLB Notes…
–Personal favorite Tommy Hunter (Roll Tide!) made his AAA debut last night. Probably not the debut he hoped for, but still a solid effort. He went 6.1 innings, giving up 3 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. Not bad for a kid who graduated college last June!
–The PCL AAA All-Star Team Roster was announced today. Our sole representative is Nelson Cruz. Personal favorite and Omaha hitting coach, Terry Bradshaw, will be on the coaching staff. Looking at the roster I’m glad I didn’t bother going this year.
–It’s only been 26 ABs, but Ian Gac continues his hot play that he demonstrated in Clinton. He is batting .385 and went 2-4 last night.
–Fellow ex-Lumberking Jacob Kaase is also putting up impressive numbers. He was 2-3 with a HR last night and his average sits at .304 after just under 50 ABs.
–Congrats to personal favorite Derek Holland who was named the Rangers minor league pitcher of the month in June. Personal favorite Chris Davis and Nelson Cruz split the honors for the batter of the month.
–Travis Metcalf sat out last night have fouling a ball off of his knee in BP 2 days ago. It doesn’t sound like a serious injury.
–Personal favorite Jason Botts apparently went 2-5 with a walk-off HR in his debut with the Nippon Ham Fighters.
–Am I the only one who finds themselves rooting for the MFYs when they play the Rangers? That doesn’t mean I need to trade in my membership to the RSN…does it?
–Happy 4th of July everyone!
NEWSFLASH: Hunter a RedHawk!
–I’m happy to report that personal favorite Tommy Hunter (Roll Tide!) has been promoted to the RedHawks. This is the best thing to happen to the RedHawks since Chris Davis was promoted (and yes, I know Dustin Nippert threw a No-No!) Frisco’s roster does not show a corresponding roster move, but they only have 4 starters now so one will probably be announced soon. I’m hoping for personal favorite Kasey Kiker to earn the promotion, but it’s just as likely to be Zach Phillips who gets the call.
–Manny Pina’s Frisco promotion was apparently only for 1 day, as Emerson Frostad now resumes catching duties.
Borbon, Madrigal, Puffer, Pina Promoted…
Manny Pina was promoted to Frisco today.
–The Rangers promoted 2007 draft pick Julio Borbon from Bakersfield to Frisco.
–Warner Madrigal was recalled from Oklahoma to Texas.
–Brandon Puffer was promoted from Frisco to Oklahoma.
–Manny Pina was promoted from Bakersfield to Frisco (I think this is the move I am most excited about).
–Craig Gentry landed on the DL.
6-27-08 Rangers MiLB Notes…
–Congratulations to personal favorite Chris Davis who had his first major league hit (an infield squib on the first pitch he saw) and scored his first run. I’m sure it’s one of many.
–Speaking of Chris, both he and my 2008 Favorite RedHawk Taylor Teagarden were named to the US Roster for the Futures Game. Frisco SS Elvis Andrus and catcher Max Ramirez were named to the World Team. Chris and Ramirez won’t be eligible to play in the Futures Game because they are on the major league roster, so they will be replaced. It’s unlikely that Rangers prospects will be named to replace them.
–I forgot to mention that Emerson Frostad was also a Texas League All-Star but I don’t believe he played.
–Jason Ellison is a finalist for Team USA (got it confirmed Jeff) and if selected he’ll be leaving the RedHawks in a couple of weeks to prep for the Olympics. I really hope Josh Hamilton’s “day to day” injury only lasts a couple of days because if we lose Nelson Cruz or John Mayberry as well as Chris, our offense is going to suffer.
–Emerson Frostad is being switched back to catcher. Jose Vallejo and JT Restko have been promoted to Frisco. Ian Gac, Jacob Kaase, and Renny Osuna now play for the Blaze. Davis Stonebrunner is now with Clinton.
