Murray down, Metcalf up…
–The Rangers optioned AJ Murray to OKC and activated Kason Gabbard.
–They also DFA’d Ben Broussard and activated Travis Metcalf. Travis will probably be optioned to OKC on Tuesday if Marlon Byrd is activated. Guess I was right about Brandon Boggs and German Duran staying in Texas for a while. Of course the Rangers do this now when I was hoping to win Travis’ pink jersey…*sigh*
Some interesting Rangers MiLB tidbits…
–Some good tidbits from Evan Grant’s column today:
- Luis Mendoza is out at least 2 more weeks and by the time he is activated he may have lost his roster spot to either Scott Feldman or Sidney Ponson. He’ll throw in a simulated game this weekend and then make at least 2 rehab starts. (Hey Jeff, we can see our buddy Ian again!)
- John Patterson has stopped throwing with arm soreness.
- Marlon Byrd is expected to be in OKC for a rehab assignment this weekend. We he is activated Ben Broussard, who has been relegated to a bench position, may lose his roster spot.
- The DMN gives Brandon Boggs some love. I wouldn’t be surprised to see he and German Duran in Texas long term.
I’m sad to report that Jason Botts has cleared waivers and is again a RedHawk…
–Per the DMN, Jason Botts has cleared waivers and been assigned to OKC. I had really hoped for his sake that someone would claim him off waivers. Not sure where his playing time is going to come from. Right now John Mayberry, Jr., Nelson Cruz and Kevin Mench have the corner outfield spots pretty well occupied, though Kevin does have an out clause he can exercise starting next month. Nate Gold has been hitting well so I am not sure Jason will usurp his position either. My guess is a Jason/Nate 1B/DH tandem. Probably means Casey Benjamin will be seeing a lot of bench time.
–Warner Madrigal was assigned to OKC and was in uniform last night.
–In happy news, personal favorite Andrew Laughter was apparently promoted to Frisco. I was bummed that he skipped Clinton so I will miss him on that trip, but now I can catch him down in Frisco. I’m really looking forward to seeing him pitch in person…and to see if he lives up to the name! LOL
Misc. Rangers MiLB Notes…
–Kason Gabbard is scheduled to be activated to start Thursday with AJ Murray likely to return to OKC. It looks like Scott Feldman will stay in the Rangers rotation for now.
–The Rangers website has an article about Ramon Vazquez mentoring personal favorite German Duran.
–Nelson Cruz and Ian Gac are tied for the lead in HRs in the minors.
–Max Ramirez was named the TL offensive player of the week while Renny Osuna and Engel Beltre were co-MWL offensive players of the week.
–Personal favorite Tommy Hunter was the Cal League pitcher of the week (Roll TIDE!)
