Reds Minor Leagues

A little prospect info and what happens with Adam Rosales?

Where does Adam Rosales fit into the 2008 lineup for Louisville? (Photo: Tim Evearitt/The Chattanoogan)

Justin has up a nice little breakdown on the Reds recent pickups over on his website, including Edinson Volquez, Danny Herrera and several others.

Recently the Reds signed a batch of minor leaguers to contracts. Andy Phillips and Kevin Barker were both part of that group and both play first base. There doesn’t seem to be a spot on the Reds bench, so these guys are probably going to be going to AAA. With both of them playing first base, I have to question where Adam Rosales fits into this equation. He split his season in Sarasota and Chattanooga where he hit very well. The next step would be Louisville for him, but with these new acquisitions where does he play? Would he really go back to Chattanooga after a .923 OPS in 300 plate appearances there last year? One option would be that with the recent departure of Aaron Herr (Louisville 3B last year; signed with the Indians) that Rosales, who has played 3B in the past could make a move to third and spend time there. Rosales was the Reds Minor League Hitter of the Year this past season, so they have to get him to the next level.

I think he played third base in the AFL this year, if I’m not mistaken. Maybe the Reds are asking him to do that now,

He did play a little bit of 3B in the AFL so that is where I am leaning for now.

I have to say I was more than a little bit puzzled by those acquisitions, but at this point, nothing Krivsky does surprises me. I’m figuring Rosales goes to third or maybe there will be some outfield time in his future. Could he and Dorn be an outfield platoon in Cinti.?–with Rosales obviously as help also from the right-hand side at first and some depth at 3b? I just want to see the right guys getting AB’s at Louisville. That should be the priority, and to me that means primarily Rosales and Dorn, with Dickerson, Janish, the catchers, and maybe later Anderson. Frankly I was puzzled by the 2b acquisitions too, as well, while I’m at it, at the idea of bringing back Michalak one more time.

I think Dorn could use a little more time in AA. Yeah, he killed the ball in his one month trial there, but give him another two months there before promoting him if he succeeds. Pitchers didn’t get to see him more than once really, so give them time to see him again and see what happens.

I think that prospects should play over the journeyman type of guy, I just don’t think Dorn is going to be starting off in AAA next year although I could be wrong.

From what we have seen of Rosales, he sures seems to have a love for the game!

    Jamie,
From everything I have seen and read, thats true. He plays just about all out whenever he steps onto the field.

You are right about that. I was a teammate of Rosie’s in the past few years, and I’ve never seen anyone work harder at the game than him. Third base won’t even be a transition for him, as he was an amazing-fielding shortstop at the college level…not that that translates to the bigs, but he will hone his skills at 3rd no problem.

Rosie!!(Adam Rosales) It was great following him during Spring. We all hope to see and hear more good news his way. Good luck to all those players who work so hard at what they love doing…
