Pending Pinstripes

The Promotion Train Keeps on Rolling…or not.

Per the New York Post, several pitching prospects are moving up to the next level. Daniel McCutchen, who has been very effective in AA this season (2.53 ERA, 46 K’s in 50 innings), is getting the call to Scranton, which places him one step closer to a major league callup (though he’s probably still behind Steven White, and possibly Jeff Marquez). He could be useful out of the bullpen this season if they choose to move him there. Eric Hacker (0.86 ERA in 42 innings) and Alfredo Aceves (2.11 ERA in 47 innings) are both moving up from Tampa to Trenton, as they have both shown that they are more than capable of handling high-A ball. While neither of these two are major prospects, it’ll be interesting to see how they fare against higher level competition.

Update:  Chad  Jennings, who spoke with Mark Newman recently, is reporting that McCutchen has in fact not been promoted to Scranton.  No word on what this means for Aceves and Hacker.  I’m inclined to trust Chad over George King and the Post, so I believe that this is likely the truth.

It’s good to see McCutch finally move up, as he has been dominating the Double-A level for some time now.

Wonder if they move McCallister to Tampa in a few starts.

Of Course the team has so many injuries that they may not have the resources to.

McAllister won’t get moved. Wasn’t it only a week ago he got shell shocked for 8 runs? They’ll keep him around for at least a 4 more starts in my opinion.

I guess Hacker’s injury wasn’t too serious when he was pulled recently. I thought it was his last start, but I guess it was longer ago? I don’t follow the Tampa team closely enough.

The McCutchen promotion just had to happen after another horrible outing in “spot start” work for Heath. With the SWB bullpen short on arms to begin with, they couldn’t afford to march a RP out there every 5th day and expect not to overwork the bullpen arms. I think he’ll do well with the promotion. I don’t see Marquez getting a big league call up any time soon. In fact, I see a demotion more likely than a promotion; perhaps switching him with Wright at some point.

Hacker had a blister, so I imagine it was not that big of a deal. As for McAllister, I think he has shown enough to be promoted to Tampa, but they might wait until the summer, maybe even until the draft.

Chad Jennings spoke to Mark Newman and confirmed that Cutch is not going to SWB (yet).
