Minor League Recap 7/23
Scranton’s game against Richmond was rained out
Trenton defeats New Hampshire, 3-1
- Chase Wright was very effective, allowing a run on 5 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings of work, and striking out 1. He lowered his ERA to 2.96 with this effort.
- Mark Melancon earned the win by throwing 2 scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 1.93 on the season. 5 of the 6 outs he got were via the groundball, a very encouraging sign.

Charleston over Greensboro, 4-3
- Wilkins de la Rosa was impressive as a starter again, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 8. He lowered his ERA to 2.32 with this outing, and continues to look strong, striking out many hitters without walking many.
- Abe Almonte, Brandon Laird, and Austin Krum were each 0 for 4. Abe’s average dropped to .231, and the poor guy just can’t seem to buy a hit in July.
- Austin Romine was 1 for 4 with a double.
- Brad Suttle was 0 for 3 with a walk.
- Justin Snyder was 2 for 4 with a 2-run homer that tied the game in the top of the 9th. He is hitting .296 on the season, and .390 in his last 10.
- Carmen Angelini was 1 for 4.
- Jeff Nutt was 2 for 4.
- Prilys Cuello, playing leftfield, was 1 for 3 before being pinch-hit for in the top of the 9th.
- Jesus Montero, who pinch-hit for Cuello, drove in the winning run with an RBI single in his only at bat. Now that’s clutch.

- Jose Pirela was 1 for 4.
- Chris Smith was 0 for 3, dropping his average to .164.
- Jimmy Paredes was 0 for 4, lowering his average to .295. He also made his 12th error, playing shortstop today.
- Neall French, Chad Gross, and Mitchell Delaney were each 1 for 4.
- Zoilo Almonte was 2 for 3 with a double.
- Emerson Landoni was 2 for 3 with a double.
In other news, Ken Davidoff is reporting that the Yankees have signed 7th-rounder Kyle Higashioka, a high school catcher committed to Cal, for around $400,000. This signing was expected, but I am not sure if it is official yet. If it is official, Higashioka could wind up in the GCL soon. Judging by the size of the bonus, he is somewhere between Austin Romine and Chase Weems as a prospect, adding another nice piece to the Yankees’ catching depth.

Eric, any idea on what percentage of a chance the Yanks have at signing Yorman?

Eric,
I know that Wilkins is alittle older than the competition at Charleston but do you think he’s got a chance to be a breakout pitcher next season? Everybody has got eyes on Cole, Brackman, and Betances next season. But do you think Wilkins can make a big splash in Tampa Hi-A ?

He’ll definitely be an intriguing sleeper to keep an eye on because he is new to pitching, has great stuff, and is lefthanded. I think he can definitely have success in high-A.

And Dan, I have no idea about Yorman, I haven’t heard any news recently about him.
