Week 12: 49ers vs. Cowboys Preview & Discussion Thread

2008Week12.jpg

It's really simple for the 49ers these days. Knowing that their 3-7 record will not help them make the playoffs, they could play spoiler to the Cowboys who are trying to fight for their division title. However, as these two teams try to renew a rivalry that once was, both find themselves going in opposite directions.

But we all know what the big named Dallas Cowboys are bringing to this game. They have a great quarterback in Tony Romo. Even though he has an injured pinky finger, he still is dangerous. Former 49er Terrell Owens is having a bad year, but still a huge threat. Adam "Pacman" Jones was reinstate while rookie sensation Felix Jones was put on IR.

And let's not forget Tony Romo's new movie buddy.

But aside from all the stuff that Ed Werder reports to us while living at Cowboys camp, this team is still a 6-4 team trying to find their way into the playoffs.

The 49ers just found themselves last week. With a precise quarterback in Shaun Hill and a solid running game, the 49ers might have enough to get a win. But it all comes down to field position.

Can the 49ers defense prevent the Cowboys from running up the score? Can the Niners help themselves with field position? How about the offense?

Can the running and passing attack flourish? Or will the 49ers go back to what they were in weeks past and just look terrible and flat? Hill has looked rather impressive in the past couple games and it looks like this may be his biggest test.

But this rivalry hasn't been the same since the `90s and I know that I want to see something spark here. But in this battle of trying to play spoiler for the 49ers, they still need to understand that that the Cowboys are a very capable team of running the ball and finding open receivers right down the middle.

It could be an ugly game, but I think the 49ers keep it close and squeek out a 24-21 win.

The only news is that 49ers LB Patrick Willis was not in practice much this week, nursing his hip. Even though listed as probable, he is expected to play.

WR Josh Morgan and Arnaz Battle are both out. Expect a lot of Jason Hill and Dominique Zeigler.
