Angel Stadium is (nearly) rat- and vermin-free!

One year after an Orange County Register report that Angel Stadium had several vermin violations - including major rodent activity - the Register is reporting today that Angels officials have cleaned up many of the problems that county health officials encountered.

One of the key changes that Angels officials made was to hire staff to clean up the stadium after games, rather than leave the trash overnight.

Previously, trash left by fans would be left in the stadium overnight and various vermin (rats, insects, maybe this guy) would come out at night and have a party.

But Angels officials are paying those late-night workers a little more and have installed various traps throughout the park to catch the vermin. The Register is reporting that no major vermin violations have been found in 11 months - the longest stretch without a major vermin violation in two years.

According to the story, the Angels have also brought in a cat.

The Register story was not a surprise to me since the reporter had contacted me earlier this week to gain a fan’s perspective on the issue.

My quotes were not included in the story but I essentially said that since the Arte Moreno era began in 2003 the Angels have been known for being very fan friendly and addressing problems. Beer prices were lowered when Moreno started and when spring training games were not being broadcast this year, the Angels fixed that the best they could.

So the good news is Angels fans can eat food safely. The other good news is you won’t see as many of these guys around the stadium as much.

Now, if only we could put out traps to get rid of these guys this weekend.
