Dodger Pitchers Can’t Cool Lance Berkman
So if I told all yall that Derek Lowe and Brian Moehler eached pitched 5 innings and that one of them gave up 6 runs and the other gave up no runs, who would yall guess gave up the runs? Yeah, me too and we were both wrong.
Moehler gave up 5 hits, 1 double, 1 walk 1 SB and 5 Ks. Lowe gave up 8 H, 2 BB, 1 SB, 3 doubles, 1 HR, 1 sac fly, 5 K, 6 ER.
I guess that Coop decided to have Brad Ausmus catch Moehler, give him all the help he could get. Now, I would like Coop to explain why, with 2 on, 0 or 1 out and Ausmus up, Ausmus is NOT bunting. Also why, if Geary is up with 1 out, 2 on, he is not standing there with bat on shoulder, staring, unmoving. Yeah, I know it didn’t matter with 7 runs in, but youneverknow…
Michael Bourn went 1 fer 5 with a SB and a run scored, but he is starting to get that desperate look, which worries me. I know that fans are starting to call for his head, which is pretty silly because unlike Adam Everett, who was solely responsible for the Astros poor run production the last 2 years, Bourn has the luxury of 3 excellent bats in the lineup as well as a secondary leadoff guy batting in the 2-hole. Most second year guys need some time to adjust and people keep forgetting that Bourn only had 120 something PA last year and that we don’t exactly have some incredible replacement tearing up AAA with bat and glove, waiting to replace him.
Fat Elvis is just, I don’t even know the word - looking awesome, that is all there is to it. I know how the stupid Yeccchs/Red Sux obsessed ESPN guys are, but I sure wish Lance could get at least a little props. He went 3/4 with a BB and 2 RS. No SB, though - guess he’s gonna save himself for closer games.
I will also say that this game, we got the breaks from the umps on the pitches AND the call as DeWitt’s foot clearly touched the bag before Tejada’s in the 4th - not sure why Matsui didn’t throw to first instead of second anyway as Berkman was waiting and Tejada had to run to the bag.
So be it and shall it remain. Chris Sampson goes tonight and I hope all that extra work he’s been doing with Dewey pays off. But, you know, when you’re a sinkerballer and you get lots of grounders, sometimes you pitch great and the balls just find holes to squeak through…
- Oh yeah - just as a footnote, Mike Lamb drove in the winning runs against Jonathan Papelbon last night. He’s one of those Red Sox guys that ESPN just won’t shut up about. Good for Mike!!!!!

I’m actually happy that he’s getting no national media attention. I do not want them to jinx him, as I’m sure when he starts getting pub, he’ll go for a 2-20 slump.
Lance really likes even years.
