Life Is A Beach And Astros Are Last
Husband really wanted to spend the 4th of July in Galveston at my cousin’s. He absolutely LOVES the water - and his sons just like their daddy, too. And I realized we really hadn’t spend a weekend at the beach during the season since 03 or 04 - we used to go weekends when the Astros had late night games with West Coast teams. So with enthusiastic kidz packed in the back of the truck, we headed down. But the weather asn’t as nice as it might could be - we had rain off and on and it was raining hard by dinner and I knew that kids would be miserable about missing the fireworks because the rain didn’t look as if it would be past by start time.
So in the morning when Husband casually said something to me in front of kids about how nice a day it was and maybe we should “stop at” the beach before going hime, I knew it wasn’t gonna be for any hour or so. So I thought I’d quick check on yesterday’s game lessee - Lance drove in a run, Miggy hit into a DP, actually, drove in a run with a grounder to second which turned into a DP because Loretta waited to long to take off for third. Bourn sat out this game, Erstad got a hit. Moehler gave up 5 runs and a homer.
Summary - Astros looked, um, lousy.
And today, Chris Sampson gets a spot start against JoJo Reyes.
Chris has pitched very well since being removed from the starting rotation at the end of May - 4 ER/16.2 IP - 1 HR, 2 BB, 8 K. I just hope he can pretend the Braves are actually the Cubs.
Against the Braves, he’s started in 2 games and relieved in 1 more - a total of 9 IP (not good) with a 6 ERA - 3 HR, 2 BB, 3 K.
JoJo Reyes, LHP, is 3-6 in 12 GS this year - 69.1 IP - 70 H, 8 HR, 26 BB, 58 K: 4.15 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a .268 BAA
He’s had 2 starts vs Houston over 9.1 IP - 11 H, 2 HR, 6 BB, 4 K - 7R/6 ER.
sigh
The Astros really ARE a mess. I would guess that like Justice sez, Drayton will probably fire at least one coach. But it sure seems to me that the players are VERY unhappy with Cooper, and Bud Selig or no Bud Selig, Drayton had better seriously consider actually hiring a guy who knows how to manage PEOPLE as well as game strategy.
