Weeks’ walk-off gives Weissmakers the “W”

Bottom of the ninth, two outs, bases loaded, and your team is down 3-2. Rickie Weeks stepped up, smashing a 2-run single to drive in J.J. Hardy and Gabe Kapler and give the Crew a 4-3 win to end their losing streak at 6 games.

Starter Manny Parra got the Crew in an early hole, serving up a first inning solo shot to Albert Pujols, followed by two more Cards’ runs in the second. But that was all St. Louis would score on the night, as Parra went three more innings for 5 IP total, allowed just 3 hits, 3 walks and the 3 earned runs, before handing off to the bullpen. David Riske pitched two scoreless innings, followed by Salomon Torres and Brian Shouse each pitching scoreless innings–the four pitchers held the Cards to just six hits on the night.

The Brewers scored their other two runs in the fourth–Corey Hart scored on a wild pitch shortly after doubling in Ryan Braun.

Meanwhile, down in Tucson, Mark DiFelice gave up his first walk of the year, as well as 5 ER’s over 6 IP, in a no decision. So much for my hope that a suitable replacement for Dave Bush was imminent.
