All Right, Who’s the Wise Guys?

Bad enough: TBS’s graphics people, promoting today’s Red Sox-Angels ALDS game during last night’s Phillies-Rockies contest, boxed and highlighted the day’s starters and their stats—Curt Schilling v. Jered Weaver—and hung up a photograph of Weaver’s older brother, Jeff, from his very brief days as an Angel.

Worse: The front-page teaser on ESPN.com for a pleasant Amy K. Nelson piece on the Angels Sunday midday:

It’s do-or-die time for the Angels. Down 2-0 to the Red Sox, they are counting on Jeff Weaver to save their season.

Uh, memo to ESPN teaser writers: Jeff Weaver ended up bagging the St. Louis Cardinals’s World Series win last year. This year, he was seen in Seattle Mariners’ silks and unable to decide which Jeff Weaver—the one who mastered the Detroit Tigers in Game Five, 2006 Series; or, the one who finds himself throwing one horrible inning enough to neuter if not vaporise his prior three or four tight ones—was going to take the mound on a given day’s starting assignment.

“Hey, Jeff,” you can imagine Jered crowing if the brothers saw the mistakes. “You gonna save our season tonight?”

“Sure, bro,” you can imagine Jeff rejoining. “You can use all the help you can get. But I better change the uni number. People are liable to get us mixed up.”

“Explains a lot.”
