More on Haren Extension
Devin posted last night on Haren’s extension, but it seems he’ll only be making 12.75M in 2011 and 2012, not $15M as it was originally reported.
As comments on MLB Trade Rumors points out, the D-backs appear to be getting a huge discount, as back-end starters like Carlos Silva are making $12M per year.
Hard as it is to believe, Haren has actually been better than Brandon Webb this year (and probably should be the front runner for NL Cy Young), though Webb isn’t likely to take as much of a discount.
UPDATE MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert has some details on the Webb talks:
In fact, he said the two sides had agreed on the years and total dollar amount.
A source with knowledge of the negotiations told MLB.com that the extension would have been for three years and would have added $54 million to his existing deal. There would also have been a club option for a fourth year in 2014.
“As far as right now, it’s tabled,” Webb said. “We actually had agreed on terms. We were right there. Things just didn’t pan out. I just want to let fans know that I’m not the one that pulled it off the table, that we just didn’t see eye to eye on a couple things and that was it.”
