The Hardball Times Season Preview 2008
So, I have a secret to tell that no one really knows about except my parents and roommates.
I’ve been doing this online writing thing for actually almost a year now; I can’t believe how quick the time has flown by. All pretty much for MVN, a couple things here, a couple things there, nothing was really that big of a deal.
The Hardball Times gave me a shot this year, and asked me to contribute to their 2008 Season Preview that is actually going to be sold in stores, online, and whatever else different type of stuff comes that.
Naturally, I’m writing about the Dodgers.
They have sections for each and every team from some of the best fans and online sports writers across the country. It’s been really cool to be a part of this. I’m actually on a mass e-mail list and everything.
They asked me to fill out a couple of sections about the Dodgers, what types of things happened last year, what I think is going to happen this year (like I have any idea), who’ll be better, who’ll be worse…lots of things.
Then they asked me to write a small paragraph about pretty much every guy that put on a Dodger uniform last season. There’s about 41 of them, I wrote a little something about 41 different guys that played for the Dodgers last year, and I wasn’t afraid to call Luis Gonzalez a wimp. That’s semi-the point of this whole thing, it’s from the bloggers, and the guys and gals that know you’re team the way you do.
The reason I like writing is because I like to come from an honest perspective. I’m not getting paid big bucks to sit on TV and tell you what is going to happen, like Steve Phillips does.
We have the reactions, and we like to see whether or not they pan out. Trust me, I know, you love the Dodgers more than any of those stupid guys on TV, I do too.
Anyway, this book should be the bomb. Or at least I hope so.
They lined all the writers up with stat geek projections about what each player is “going to do” for the next three years.
And we wrote about it.
It was a blast.
Here’s a link to David Gassko’s Ten things he learned from reading the book. We got no love.
Here’s a link to a small part of a sample chapter from the book. The Red Sox won the World Series, so they’re the sample. Just imagine it filled with Dodgers. Oh the possibilities.
A link to Lisa Gray’s MVN Astros blog site. She’s the Stros’ writer for the book. She has a little bit to say about it all.
And….
You should be able to find the book on-line at Amazon.com and in the bookstore nearest you, but here’s a direct link to our publisher, ACTA Sports. We get more money if you buy it from them.
I’m the last one ever for shameless self-promotion. But there it was. We all have to be a little bit entitled sometimes.
You get the point.
If you like it read it, I really, honestly think it should be fun.
