Jeremy Sowers called up for today’s start, Ben Francisco sent down
It’s official. Today, the Cleveland Indians called up lefty starter Jeremy Sowers from Buffalo, and sent down hard-luck outfielder Ben Francisco. Sowers will be starting today in place of injured starter, Jake Westbrook.
Francisco, who carried one of the hottest bats in spring training, has been relegated to Buffalo to start the season. In his most recent call-up, the 2007 International League batting champion went 2-6, with a double and an RBI. As far as being sent down? He’s been there, and done that. No, Francisco isn’t the second coming of Mays, or even Mays Hayes, but he is an intriguing option in the outfield as opposed to the tandem of Jason Michaels and David Dellucci.
It will be interesting watching Sowers on the mound today. Over a year ago, Sowers imploded against the Yankees, giving up nine hits and six earned runs, in only 2 2/3 innings. It was the beginning of the end of Sowers, who seemed to cement himself into the lineup after a successful 2006 debut.
Welcome back, Jeremy. Now the watch is on with Aaron Laffey, who will be called up on Monday. Will the Indians simply send down Sowers and bring Laffey up, or is there something more sinister in the air?

So far, so good for Jeremy Sowers. It’s early yet, but Sowers is throwing a heavy ball today.

Ben is cousin and he has done all that can be done in AAA baseball and Dellucci is old and always hurt so what dose that tell you. It mean he is washed up.
