Joe Borchard will not be the starting CFer for the Marlins. That much I can tell you.

It’s a shame that Borchard won’t be starting Opening Day at CF. Hopefully he can get a few starts a week though. That is unless Eric Reed decides to turn into 2004 Juan Pierre.

Yeah, Borchard is more of a “Jack of all trades, master of none” kind of guy.
He’s a guy that can provide depth at all three OF positions, but he doesn’t have the speed nor the defense to man CF down everyday.
Right now, it’s looking like my man Eric Reed will be the guy. It’s not because he’s the next JP. It’s because it’s looking like he’s the best of what we got.

Eric is going to win the job, but let’s see how long he holds on to it for. If Eric Reed can’t keep that average above .285, he is pretty much a useless player. He doesn’t walk much, or provide much power. I’m hoping that Borchard eventually starts stealing his at bats, or that we make a move for a CF.
