Olsen handed first loss in 13-1 drubbing

Scott Olsen had a reality check on Wednesday night at Dolphin Stadium. The young hurler, who had only given up one run in his previous three starts, all of which were wins, had his worst outing since September 16th, squandering 4 runs in 5 innings and taking the loss in a 13-1 pounding by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

You could tell from the start that it wasn’t going to be Olsen’s night. For the first time this year, he let his first hitter get on base. It was all downhill from there. Olsen was touched for single runs in two innings and suffered just his third multi-run inning of the season in the 3rd. He nearly matched his seasonal high in pitch count but only threw a seasonal low 5 frames. Olsen wasn’t the only one that wasn’t his usual spectacular. The bullpen got beaten up for the first time this year as well. The trio of Logan Kensing, Taylor Tankersley and Matt Lindstrom gave up a combined 6 runs in 2.1 innings.

While Florida was ruining Olsen’s perfect record, Los Angeles was ruining Chad Billingsley’s imperfect record. The rookie went 7 innings allowing just one run on three hits. He struck out 8. Hanley Ramirez had his four game hit streak ended, Dan Uggla had a three game hit streak ended and the Marlins were unable to get their sixteenth April win, which would have been a franchise record for wins in the month.

This game never happened.

For the first time this season, the Fish will be in sweep avoidance mode tomorrow afternoon. Hiroki Kuroda vs. Burke Badenhop. Badenhop (0-2, 8.36 ERA) is still looking for his first career victory.
