Hammer to the DL, Brett Carroll recalled

The Marlins have placed Josh Willingham on the DL with back issues and have recalled outfielder Brett Carroll from AAA Albuquerque. Josh missed much of September after going on the DL with a herniated disk, so this could be somewhat serious. He was hitting .341/.406/.637 with 6 homeruns in 25 games.

Up comes Brett Carroll who quickly becomes the best defensive outfielder we have and by default, the best defensive player we have not named Alfredo Amezaga. Carroll comes up from Albuquerque as hot as can be, hitting .418/.480/.896 with 9 homeruns in 67 at bats. Yes that’s a .896 slugging, not a .896 OPS. Hopefully we get a long hard look at Brett Carroll, especially while he’s hot. He can play all three outfield positions above average, so we should see alot of him over the next 2 weeks.

Not sure if he will be in town for tonight’s game against San Diego.

Kind of surprising after Fredi said he could have played last night but he wanted to be cautious. The team site said he would be in the lineup for sure tonight.

Maybe he suffered some sort of setback?

On the bright side, Hermida is finally going to get his chance in the two hole tonight.
