Week 5 (Late) “Met of the Week”: Ryan Church
Ryan Church is red hot here on the 7-Train, as he wins the Met of the Week just days after securing the Met of the Month award for April. But Church deserves the honors, as he continues to be the most consistently productive Metropolitan, both at the plate and in the field.
Church was very prominent in the Mets wins this week, driving in 3 runs in Friday night’s 7-2 win over Arizona. He also hit a two-run homer in the Mets win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday, and made the game saving throw on Sunday in the 8th inning to nail Chris Burke at third.
Along with leading the Mets to voctory, he also performed well in losses. Church drove in the only Mets run in their embarrassing 13-1 loss Wednesday to the Pirates, and was the only Met with more than one hit in their 10-4 loss to the DBacks on Saturday, going 2-4 with a run scored.
All in all, this one was a no-brainer. Churchy has been nothing short of a godsend this year so far, and I pray that he continues his great play. Ryan Church wins the “Met of the Week” award by a landslide.
