Week 6 Met of the Week: Carlos Beltran

“El Esta Aqui!” It is the song by David y Abraham we all know quite well by now, as it is played every time Carlos Beltran comes to the plate. In Spanish it literally translates, “He is Here.” It is quite apropos for Beltran this week, because finally…Carlos Beltran IS HERE.

Carlos has caught fire for the first time since the opening week of the season, and he has earned my “Met of the Week” award because of it. The Mets Centerfielder anchored the team’s lineup this week with 8 hits in 6 games against the Dodgers and Reds. He drove in 8 runs as well, raising his season total from 14 to 22. Beltran also demonstrated power, belting his first homerun in 14 games on Sunday against Cincinnati.

Mets fans can only hope that the notoriously streaky Carlos Beltran can stay red hot and continue to carry the offense. After a slow April, number 15 is “aqui,” and hopefully “aqui” to stay.
