Breaking News:: Trebelhorn will not return in 2008
According to Roch Kubatko and his blog at the Sun. 12 year Oriole coaching veteran Tom “the Professor” Trebelhorn will not have his contract renewed for next year.
According to Trebelhorn: “…start reading the wire. There will be a lot of those.”
This is the first of many moves. I think we can say goodbye to hitting coach Terry Crowley and I think it is highly unlikely that Mazzone will be back next year as well.
In other news. Last night was Orioles Hangout’s last night at the yard. We were treated to a pretty solid comeback and some other goodies. An Orioles rep, who’s name I did not get, came up to pur section with about three bags full of swag.
Guthrie t-shirts, other Orioles shirts, a set of programs from the entire year, a bag full of hats, etc. I ended up giving away my swag to various kids and O’s fans in the general vicinity. For an organization that continually takes lumps for not helping out the fans or showing them appropriate love it was really cool to see happen.
Also, I want to give a bit of love to Alan. Alan is the coolest/ best usher you could hope to have in Camden Yards. An elderly gentlemen who deals with thousands upon thousands of people throughout the week and he recognized our group, a couple of us by name.
He also helped dish out a little Bal’mer justice after this incident.
Peanuts are for eating, not throwing at me Yankee fan.

A good house cleaning is in order. Only the devil rays and the pirates won fewer games! Getting rid of Crowley would be a good move as well. No need to stop with the coaches either, cut the dead wood on the bench as well. I’d start with Gibbons and anyone else that doesn’t want to be here. I’d rather have a team players that play hard and lose than a team with potential that never plays hard. Every pitch, every play, every player. Am I asking for too much???
See you next spring…Gino

I have to say I had an awesome experience with an usher earlier this month, too. I was sitting in section… uhhm 380, I believe or one right near that. It was the Saturday even game where the Orioles beat the Red Sox 11 to 5. Our seats were at the end of the aisle right beside where the usher normally stands. She was a 40-ish year old African-American lady who chatted with us about how the Orioles were doing and how she can’t stand Red Sox fans. Scott Moore hit a grand slam in that game and she up and down and high fived us. And she told us to enjoy ourselves and if any Red Sox fan bothered us, she’d kick them out.
Awesome, awesome lady. Much better than last year when an usher told us to sit down during a Yankees game where the score was tied, bases loaded, and the Orioles at bat in the 8th inning. That’s just crazy. The fun usher from this year made the game even more fun.

Trebelhorn fired already….hmmm. He said he wasn’t fired for any reason in particular. What exactly does a bench coach do in this organization anyway? I always thought he was too aggressive as a 3rd base coach, but I can’t trash him for his work as a bench coach. I guess he fell victim to the house cleaning.
I’d have fired Crowley first. Way too many underachieving bats. I know he can’t go in the box for them, but I guess he’s kind of responsible for the offense in an indirect way.

I can’t speak to him not doing his job..but I think this is the start of a regime change. Everyone needs to go. We need fresh faces and a fresh mentality.

I agree with Tim. I love some of these guys but it’s time. They need to clean out some serious baggage in the minors and majors. Selling to Cal Ripken would be a nice start too!!!!!!!

It’s time. It’s evident with seeing the crowd and the media. This much is simple; the fans have spoken and they don’t care.
Winning will solve most of the problems, and the Orioles need to focus on rebuilding a once proud organization.
I have a long diatribe on my personal blog; and I’ll be expanding on it in little bits and pieces as the week goes on.

There’s a lot of work to be done, and it may be until 2009-10 and beyond before we see any results.
Good luck, Andy.

Heathir,
I think I know the usher you are talking about. She’s very friendly and really seems to enjoy her job. I usually sit in 376 and was hoping to wish her a good winter at the last game I attended (KC on 9/24) but she didn’t work that night.
