Oriole Magic

Danny Boy Was Amazing; Bynum Returns & Delivers…

IMGP0165I have complained, whined and bitched about the Orioles this week, as a lot of people have; however, tonight showed why we as fans have a lot to look forward to with the new look Baltimore franchise. Daniel Cabrera won his third game — a complete game — thanks to an excellent effort by the tall righty, and Nick Markakis’ three run-homer.

Back to Daniel, the kid is now focused and in a way — now in the zone. Granted, we are not only even 1/2 of the way through the season, but if number 40 keeps this up, he will no doubt be the man we hoped he’ll be. Then again, he may be dangled on the market too.

I’m going to be cautiously optimistic, but so far, so good.

He used groundballs and strikeouts (7) to get himself through in Kansas City.

Finally, how about Freddie Bynum?

The floor is yours.

Thank god the Luis Hernandez era at short is over. I mean, everytime I saw him attempt to turn a double play I tensed up.

Also, I’m not sure if anyone heard Buck in the pre-game, he said, “Daniel has turned the corner…” A bold statement…now lets see if its true.

I’m hesitant to believe that Cabrera has really turned the corner. I’ve believe it so many times and been hurt by it so many times before.

However…..he REALLY looks like a different pitching this year.

Last night he still showed that he could get frustrated and lose his cool in the 5th when he let up a base hit then couldn’t even get a pitch in the general direction of the plate. But he cooled down MUCH faster than we’re used to seeing with him.

Tim, yeah — I don’t like to wish bad things upon anyone, but I am relieved that Freddie is in for Luis. Hernandez would make a fine backup and defensive substitution; however, if you take away last year’s numbers, there’s a reason why he should not be a ML starter, just by the stats alone.

Mike - You’re right. A good start in 2008 for Daniel does not erase several mediocre years, but he right now seems to be a different pitcher and is now actually pitching with a plan, and not throwing.

If he keep it up, Kranitz needs to be given major props for his work.

Cabrera is finally making strides. Finally!

And if Mr. Bynum keeps going this way, we all may be chanting Fred-die! much the same way we used to say Ed-die!

Luis, hit the showers. I would love to have Freddie and Cintron at SS.

Back to work for me now.

I’ve waited for Cabrera to find consistency for a few years now…ever since his 5 inning 10k game in the WBC…I know he has brilliance in him. He can be flat out, shut down dominating.

May I suggest that a big part of Cabrera’s success is based on an improved defense?

WOW if the Orioles could get Loewen and Cabrera on the right and healthy track we could have something

Soccer Dad, good point. The high amount of groundball outs he got definitely contributed to things yesterday.

Bynum actually got a lot of play yesterday, and looked like he’d not missed a beat.

    Thanks for the comment…

Danny boy certainly has the ability to have flashes of brilliance. His form last night reminded me of his 1-hitter against the yanks last year. The pessimist in me says to wait a couple months and see if his performance sticks. We all know Cabrera has been the hallmark of inconsistent pitching the last couple years. He has averaged one complete game a year so far, so is it down hill from here? I’d like to think not, but we’ll see.
