No Surprise: Gonzalez To Represent Padres At All-Star Game
Choosing Adrian Gonzales to go to this years All Star Game was hardly suspenseful. Saying Gonzalez has been important to the Friars is kind of like claiming the Model T was important for Ford.
The 26 year old first baseman and hometown hero can now deservedly add the title of All Star to his resume. He leads the club in home runs, RBI and presence. In fact, the biggest mystery of the season is not how the Padres have managed to have so many things go wrong in such a short time, but why opponents still pitch to A-Gon.
Adrian is hitting .284 with 22 home runs and 70 RBI’s prior to Sunday’s game against Arizona. He is second in the league in RBI’s to Philadelphia’s Ryan Howard, and tied with fellow All Star Lance Berkman of the Astros for fourth in HR. He also continues to play a defensive game worthy of Gold Glove consideration.
A further source of pride for Padre fans and Adrian may be that he was elected to the game by the most discerning of audiences…his peers. Adrian was one of eight on the squad elected by his fellow players.
