Game #17 at Chicago Cubs

Friendly Confines | 2:20 | Gorzelanny vs. Jason Marquis | Box

For the fifth time this year I can write: Cubs beat Pirates and Nate McLouth extends his hitting streak.

This one got out of hand early. Tom Gorzelanny recorded 8 outs and gave up six runs. Pirate hurlers combined to walk 10 Cubs. That helped the Cubs, who had 12 knocks, score 13 runs.

If you are the owner of one of these shirts, then you could probably get a nice price for it on ebay. I have been saying for years that a movie like Sixteen Candles couldn’t be released today because of the Long Duk Dong character. The PC police would be out in full force in protest.

Pre-Game Thoughts

In the notes section of today’s Post-Gazette it mentions that Wrigley Field’s playing surface has been evened out. Apparently it used to slope very badly and when people in the dugout looked into the outfield, they could only see the outfielders from the knees up. Didn’t know that.

I’ve said it before: The Bucs have a nice core of young hitters, but that only goes so far when you have the worst set of pitchers in the NL. Pittsburgh would be better off trading a proven bat like Bay for some young pitchers and try and balance out like we’ve seen from Tampa Bay.
