Well, this has been a strange game…after going down 4-0 in the first, Texas has scratched and clawed back to a 5-4 lead in the sixth…

Ponson walks in the tying run…5-5…
Angels have lost, meaning the Rangers will climb to within three games of first place if they find a way to rebound here…

Ponson finally reverted to his old form I guess?
Impressive job by the Rangers though, to keep themselves in this game.

Yeah, a real stinker that was by Ponson and German…I’ve said this before, but Franklyn is the worst pitcher with an ERA south of 1.00 I’ve ever seen…of course, it’s no longer south of 1.00 after today…
Five games out again…sigh…still, an encouraging weekend of baseball…

That’s what’s dumb about ERA. As a reliever, you can come in with 0 outs and men on first and second, walk the bases loaded, give up a single for two runs, and then get 3 quick outs, and even though you allowed 2 runs to score, your ERA for that inning is 0.00. And that scenario pretty much describes Franklyn to a “T.”

Precisely, JDolla. I’m tempted to begin citing FIP (Fielding Independent ERA), but I’m not quite sure I feel comfortable doing so just yet.
What’s really fascinating is that according to WXRL (Expected wins added over a replacement level pitcher, one of BP’s more interesting stats), German’s notched a -0.167. Much like Ponson, Franklyn has benefited enormously from not handing out a long ball this season.
