NEWSFLASH: Murphy To 15-Day DL; Ellison Purchased
Anthony Andro of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that outfielder David Murphy has officially been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee sprain, while the contract of Triple-A Oklahoma outfielder Jason Ellison has been purchased.
Southpaw A.J. Murray (left rotator cuff strain) has been moved to the 60-day disabled list, leaving one spot empty on the 40-man roster so that the Texas Rangers can option the rehabbing Brandon McCarthy (right forearm inflammation) back to the minors once the clock on his 30-day rehab assignment expires.
Ellison’s horrendous .225 EqA with the RedHawks hopefully precludes the 30-year-old from serving as much more than a late-inning defensive substitute or an emergency starter; both Double-A Frisco’s Julio Borbon and Ellison’s teammate, John Mayberry, had been mentioned as potential substitutes for Murphy. Of the three, only Borbon had previously held a spot on the 40-man roster.
