Rumor Mill: Huston Street and Matt Murton On Rays Radar?

This could be something or it could be nothing, but according to several reputable blogs including DRaysbay and Athletics Nation, there are some rumblings about a Rays/A’s trade or an A’s/Padres trade involving closer Huston Street and OF Matt Murton.

Here is what’s being said:

According to A’s radio broadcasters, Huston Street has cleaned out his locker, possible destinations include San Diego and Tampa Bay.

ESPN’s Buster Olney stated today that the A’s are looking to quickly trade away Matt Murton and possibly Huston street to either the Padres or the Rays. 

The deal makes sense from the Rays prospective. As we all know, a bullpen arm and a RH OF are on the shopping list. Street is a young, very good closer who would be a tremendous boost to the Pen. It would also reunite him with former Texas Longhorn teammate, J.P. Howell.

Murton, has been a target of the Rays for some time and has the RH pop the Rays are looking for. He also would come with years of team control left, which is something the Rays covet.

What would the Rays give up for such a package? Can anybody trust Billy Beane? Again, this could all be a figment of someone’s imagination, but it’s July and stranger things have happened. We are working to see if we can confirm anything.
