4/16: Not this time

Prev. Gm:

New York Yankees (8-7) @ Boston Red Sox (9-6)

Clay Buchholz (0-1, 3.27) @ Chien-Ming Wang (3-0, 1.23)

7:05 PM EDT | Yankee Stadium (New York, NY)

TV: NESN | ESPN2 RADIO: WRKO 680, SBN 1150

GAME NOTES: Not this time, Wang! We're not going to let you throw a gem of a shutout... right? Right! Buchholz was the tough-luck loser last go-round, and Coco Crisp is out tonight with sore hamstrings. Joe Thurston, as predicted by me (!!!!!!!!!) was called up. Jeter's back, Posada's DHing.

Well, Manny took care of Wang's shutout early, but Clay's digging himself a big hole. This could get ugly.

And I'm getting tired of hearing the word "squander." Bases loaded, nobody out, and we get one stinking run? Ugh.

That was a huge missed opportunity by us ... Wang rarely looks as bad as he did for the first 3 batters

Let's hope Clay can settle things down and keep us in this ballgame ... he looked a little nervous in front of the big crowd

Then again, I might be pretty happy if we score one run every inning.

And I only have the radio on now (working, can't you tell?) but it sure sounds like Buchholz is jittery.

Man, I love Casey and all, but if I hear another opposing team's announcer talk about how likable he is and that he's "the mayor" I might have to get all Marion Barry on them.

Still, that safe call he made on himself was pretty awesome.

Well, ok, I know it looks bad, but I can still justify this as a Tavarez fanboy. If they pull that double play there, the game's still tied, and compared to most other pitchers in the game, that wasn't a half-bad inning.

So, yeah. Tavarez would have... saved us?

It's frustrating when someone like Latroy Hawkins can escape an inning when he lets a pair of runners aboard ...missed opportunites kill in a game like this

One a side not ... McClelland is driving me crazy with that delay on every pitch ... an ump's job is to make the game go smoothly ... not to make it more entertaining ... not to mention the fact he's like doubling the length of this game lol

Gak... can we score some runs? Off of LaTroy?

Sam --- no kidding... he frustrates me!

It's funny. Seeing Rivera warming actually gives me hope for the Sox. Imagine being able to say that 4 years ago.

Then again, seeing Timlin throwing makes me want to give up and start shucking some oysters for dinner.

How about Timlin stops sucking? That would be kind of awesome. Daddy would like that.

Mike Timlin: not such a great pitcher. Where's Gagne when you need him?

Hey, I'm just glad I currently don't have the most off-putting comment of the season so far. it's April 16th, so this is totally a new record for me.

I'm oddly nonplussed by today's loss. yeah, it sucks, but whatever. When you give up 11 runs, you don't win games, it doesn't matter who you face.

Come back and beat 'em tomorrow. I like our chances with Beckett vs. Mussina.
