Chris Carter being promoted?

Brandon Moss underwent an emergency appendectomy Saturday. His appendix picked a decent time to get inflamed as J.D. Drew returned from injury today. I wonder if he asked the doctors to hold a mirror over his stomach so he could observe the surgery ala Jack on LOST.

The favorite to replace Moss, out three weeks, is Chris Carter, a defensively-challenged first baseman who can rake. In 110 AB for the PawSox, he’s hitting .279/.328/.373 with no homers. Slow start for the lefty. We’ll see if he’s called up for the 1:35 start to help battle Scott Kazmir.

Jonathan Van Every might also be an option?? If Coco can’t go and they don’t feel safe with Drew backing up center with his hamstring issues. That would mean that Oritz would be the backup at first.
If Coco is ready I don’t know if Ortiz or Carter plays a first base. Sox Prospects says “his glove isn’t much to speak of,” but Sandy Madera is also interesting with the way he has been hitting.

Carter is a much better hitter than his current numbers. However, Lowrie wasn’t hitting the ball at AAA either when he came up, and look at what he accomplished at Fenway.

Too bad for Brandon Moss, having just shown everyone how good he can be at the plate AND in the field. Being right up the street from Mass General can be a very good thing.

I heard that Tek hurt his knee, whch is why Tito wasn’t committing to bringing anyone up, as we may need Brown or Kottaras instead of another OF/IB.

Sox birthdays: We are relying so heavily on the Pawtucket Pipeline, with such great results, I thought it would be interesting to compare the ages of these 23 and 24 year old “kids”, on one of the “oldest teams” in baseball. This seems relevant to the Carter/Moss thread, so post it here. They are shown from youngest to oldest.

Notice that much of the Red Sox future, 7 emerging stars from Buchholz to Pedroia, were born less than a year apart. Enjoy.
