Second look, different story
James Shields blew through the Boston Red Sox lineup in his last start at the Trop, but this time Shields can fully understand why David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez are the best one-two punch in baseball.
Ortiz and Ramirez combined for four hits, four runs, and drove in four to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 12-4 in the revenge game.
Josh Beckett earned the win on 8 innings pitched, four earned runs, one walk, and five strikeouts.
It was a different story for  Shields in his second go-round as he did not even get past the fifth inning throwing for 3 2/3's of work, yielding seven earned runs, three walks, and three strikeouts to his credit.
Stars of the Game:  Well it is kind of obvious
Check the above mentioned stats and know that this team did not want to let Shields dominate again.  Ortiz set the tone in his first at bat driving in one run and then Ramirez followed with a two-run single giving Boston a 3-0 lead.  After the 3-4 hitters set the tone the rest of the team took notice and poured in several RBI's including three from Jason Varitek.  Two were driven in by Varitek on a single and the other came across after Tek was plunked with the bases loaded.
Preview of Next Game: Scott Kazmir vs Jon Lester
This game is like the equivalent to watching Sidney Crosby vs Alexander Ovechkin to me because both are young, both are lefties, and both have the ability to step on the mound and unleash a stellar pitching performance at any time.  Should be a good one to watch at 1:35 p.m.

Buckholz, Becket and Lester each threw outstanding games last week but, they didn't win.
This week, both Buchholz and Becket beneath the level of those performances, but well enough to win (behind 19 runs of offense).
If Kazmir isn't rusty from his layoff, then it will be necessary for Lester to even exceed that last performance. Kaz can shut down any team, and Rays bats will be itching for revenge.
Unfortunately, even if Lester pitches as well as Buchholz's Friday and Becket's Saturday outings, and our hitters fail to deliver, the critics will rag on Jon.
