Julian Tavarez about to be traded?

The Colorado Rockies have continued to talk with the Red Sox about acquiring Julian Tavarez to bolster their stumbling rotation, which has seen Mark Redman, Ubaldo Jiminez and Franklin Morales not perform up to expectations. Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd signed Tavarez to the Cleveland Indians when Tavarez was a teenager and wants him in the fold.

It's unknown who the Sox would get in return (a prospect?) but the fact that dialogue continues to happen and there is an ability for the Sox to move him makes me think that this trade is inevitable. I'll put money on Tavarez being traded to make room for Bartolo Colon. Earlier this month, I opined that we needed to cut Tavarez. Trading him works, too.

If this goes down....and Colon comes up....is there any consideration given to Colon working out of the pen...or is it immediately Buchholz that gets bumped to long and fills in as set up to keep his innings low?

I have to think it would be Buchholz.

I'm fine with that (sad, but fine), though I wonder who takes the LRP role. Like I said last night, I hope it's Monsterson, since Tavarez typically only comes into low-leverage outings.

If true, goodbye Sexy Lips, you were my favorite player.

Don't hold your breath on this trade going down. Rockies are also interested in Josh Fogg (rumor not denied by Walt Jocketty) and Anthony Reyes (Rockey Mountain News).

Julian should bring a high-side prospect, to start reloading our system. Julian seems OK with the idea, and knew at his signing that he would be traded. Better to a supporter like O'Dowd.

I don't want to ruffle any feathers here, but Until Colon Comes Up, that long-relief role can be filled internally by Hansack, who is back, has been training for a relief role, and has always been good for several innings; or my buddy Snyder, who can do what Julian did, and has been working as a starter, so should be fine as long relief right now; and maybe the best choice right now is Zinc, who is flummoxing AAA with several pitches including the knuckler. Imagine replacing one of our hard throwers with that for a few innings? And then being relieved in the 7th or 8th by an other flamethrower? Poor batters. More rest for Tek, and I have confidence that Cash's BA could match the Captain's.

In addition to helping the Sox, this would provide a late shot for one of these guys at finding a role in the majors.
