Roster Moves; Cora for Lowrie, Corey dealt to San Diego

Quickly updating a busy day for roster moves;

  • Alex Cora was activated from the DL and will start for a still woozy Julio Lugo at SS tonight.  To make room for Cora on the roster, Jed Lowrie was optioned back to Pawtucket.  It’s very safe to say that Lowrie’s impact on this team isn’t over this season  He showed more than enough to be the “bouncer” between AAA and the bigs this year and made a case for an active roster spot for years to come.
  • Brian Corey was traded to the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later (too bad it wasn’t Josh Bard) .  This move was likely made to clear room on the 60 man roster for Bartolo Colon.
  • Sean Casey is due back with the team tomorrow with Craig Hansen the most likely candidate to return to AAA to make room on the active roster.
  • Trade talks with Colorado for Julian Tavarez are apparently still alive.  With Colon due back and the need to find a roster spot for him or Craig Hansen, I expect this trade will get done with a player to be named or a lower level prospect coming back in return.  Any Major League ready talent would be a coop.

    After a 3 inning stint by Wake, all the reasons to have Julian T., or one like him, came home to roost last nite. Who can fill that role? Is it too soon for Masterson? Hansack? Zinc? Pauley? Wake? Aardsma did well in 2 innings. Can someone else, like Hansen, MDC, Lopez, Timlin? I think Zinc would be perfect . . . a knuckler following Wake; a knuckler following Becket. That would make life even more interesting; as if we need that.
