BLOGPOLL: NL Awards 5/12

Each week, I will be participating in the 2008 MLB Blog Poll, put together by BaseballHappenings.com. Below are my current votes for the Most Valuable Player, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year awards. These votes will be tabulated among other votes from other blogs to create a running master list of voting as the year progresses. This week is the N.L. voting. Votes were asked to be turned in by the end of Monday.

MVP:
1. 1B Lance Berkman, HOU: Can anyone get Lance out? Didn’t think so.
2. 3B Chipper Jones, ATL: I think Chipper found the fountain of youth…
3. 2B Chase Utley, PHI: The MLB leader in homers sinks to third off a .167 average this week.

Cy Young:
1. SP Brandon Webb, ARI: There is no way Webb doesn’t have a stranglehold on this award now: 8-0, 2.41 ERA. Wow!
2. SP Edison Volquez, CIN: An obscenely low 1.06 ERA, Volquez has done a great job keeping the ball in the park, but needs to firm his command up.
3. SP Aaron Cook, COL: Any time a Rockies pitcher has a 2.26 ERA through eight starts, you’re recommended to sit up and take notice.

Rookie of the Year:
1. C Geovany Soto, CHC: The power-hitting catcher will anchor the Cubs for years to come.
2. SP Jair Jurrjens, ATL: Jurrjens is a nice surprise and looks like he could continue the trend of great Brave pitchers.
3. RF Kosuke Fukudome, CHC: Fukudome is proving to be everything the Cubs ever needed and may be the steal of the off-season.

Agree all-around, but I’d have Lincecum in 3rd in the Cy Young voting. He’s leading the league in K’s, and has tossed a quality start in each of 7 outings.

"Run by Evan Brunell...this has perspective and weight to it that goes against the stereotype of the screaming Red Sox fan."
