Letter to Julio Lugo from Sox fans everywhere
A Fire Brand commenter checks in to right his relationship with Julio Lugo by explaining himself...
Mr. Lugo,
I have been a Red Sox fan since birth. I named my daughter (Daughter!) after Mr. Ortiz. I have been hopeful and loving of this team despite years of disappointment and disgust. I watched Buckner boot the ball, but continued to cheer for him up until the much talked about first pitch. I am a cynic at heart, but this team lets me be an optimist whether winning or losing. I want to think happy thoughts about everyone in a Sox uniform because they bring joy to my life.
Mr. Lugo, you do everything in your power to sh---t on my efforts to be a nice person. I want to curse you when you don’t take position before each pitch. I hate it when you choke with runners on and deek a single when it doesn’t really matter. I cannot believe someone would give you discretion to choose when to steal, choose when to try to take a chippy extra base or choose to pay you a bagful of money for a relatively long time when all I want to do is enjoy watching baseball.
Mr. Lugo, you make it hard to enjoy watching baseball. You make me pound angrily on my computer and yell obscenities in the presence of church going women and soft eared children.
Mr. Lugo, please stop hating me. I’m trying to be a good person. I’ll buy you a beer next time you’re in Oregon. If I had the resources I would buy out your contract, but until that day, just a beer.
Thank you,
MR

Brilliant! If that don't get a 2 game hitting streak out of him, nothing will!

It really isn't Lugo's fault. Blame Theo for that ridiculous 4-year contract. Lugo, to paraphrase Gen'l Belichick, is what he is: a middling shortstop with good speed and some annoying tendencies. If we were paying him $2 million a year on a short contract, we'd just think of Lugo as a relatively harmless placeholder. As it is, every time he makes an error or hits a two-hopper to the second baseman, we all think "36 million dollars, for THIS???"

Anyone see in Gammons' latest or MLBtraderumors that the Sox might look at Omar Vizquel? Interesting possibility given the alternatives of Lowrie or Lugo.

Sean O: This is the FOURTH TIME I’ll have seen Lester this year. What have I done to deserve this?
aww come on Sean, he's been getting better, only 2 walks last time out, and honestly with how Beckett has been this season, Lester might actually be our 2nd best pitcher to this point.
By the way I'm loving how much Boston owns Cleveland right now, first the ALCS now the Truth making the Cavs his bitch...

Also excited to see how Masterson and Colon perfor this week, Buchholz needs to learn to trust his fastball and it would do him well to get some minor league innings, a guy who throws 95 shouldn't be pitching like a junk-baller, no matter how good his curve and change are
