5/20: Top that!
| Prev. Gm:
|
Kansas City Royals (21-23) @ Boston Red Sox (28-19)
Gil Meche (3-5, 5.98) @ Justin Masterson (0-0, 1.50) 7:05 PM EDT | Fenway Park (Boston, MA) TV: NESN RADIO: WRKO 680, SBN 1150 |
GAME NOTES:
Justin Masterson has a hell of a job tonight serving as the encore to Jon Lester's no hitter last night. Masterson was up to the challenge in his first Major League start going six innings against the Los Angeles Angels but he stumbled upon his return to the minor leagues. Masterson has allowed 20 (17 earned) runs in the last 19.1 innings pitched at AA Portland.
What better way to establish a little Masterson mojo than call on the "Masters of the Universe"?

No idea...let's just hope the offense can bail middle relief out of a potential jam.

I think we all forgot a toast to Baltimore for humbling the Yankees so very badly tonight. Well played Orioles...well played.

Religious analogies aside, Masterson is one heck of a pitcher, has helped this team win twice despite poor offense, and is heading to Pawtucket to get ready for the rest of his life in the Majors. Mojo. That name could stick. Mojo Masterson. A nice ring to that, and he might earn himself a ring this year. Major Mojo Masterson, Red Sox Pitcher.

Well Masterson follow up Lester's no hitter with his second great start in two tries. Meanwhile Ellsbury has been better then Gomes (although expected... Gomez is younger and raw) Deolis Guerra has a 4.93 era in single A with only 23 k's in 38 ip...oh weight, he is young for the league. Bill Smith better hope that flies. Phil Humber with a 5.23 era in triple-a. Mulvey has a 3.89 era in triple a but with a 1.6 whip but is more of a pitcher then raw talent. Not to mention Lowrie's contributions when he was up...Brendan Harris is not a long-term solution at 2B for them and is batting .263 with 2 homeruns.
]I was gad the trade did not go through but Minnesota fans must be a little pissed on the early returns. Granted Guerra and Gomez may turn out well long-term.
