Here are the starting lineups for the matinee. Varitek has the day off, and another coming tomorrow, so he's getting plenty of rest.
ROYALS:
1. David DeJesus, LF
2. Mark Grudzielanek, 2B
3. Alex Gordon, 3B
4. Jose Guillen, DH
5. Mark Teahen, RF
6. Miguel Olivo, C
7. Ross Gload, 1B
8. Alberto Callaspo, SS
9. Joey Gathright, CF
SP - Brian Bannister
RED SOX:
1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Manny Ramirez, LF
5. Mike Lowell, 3B
6. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
7. JD Drew, RF
8. Kevin Cash, C
9. Julio Lugo, SS
SP - Daisuke Matsuzaka
Here's hoping Manny dings one...so he can go for 500 tomorrow while I'm at the yard.

god this is pathetic, how a guy with his stuff is such a nibler, it's so frustrating watching him pitch.

DREW!!!
At least Dice-K's only given up one hit. 68 pitches through three isn't all that awful; if he can get a quick one somewhere, six isn't impossible. Five walks in three innings though. But then, only one hit given up. He's ... confusing.

Walksuzaka barely got out of the fifth with the lead. Thank you Drew and Youk for pulling his ass out of the fire.
Run support, always for the win.

Lowell decides to join the GS love crew. God I love this team...
Oh whoops! Hansen decides to suck today! Still 11-5 thank God.

Good game so far.
I'm really trying to embrace the "new" Craig Hansen, but pretty soon I'm just going to give up and say he sucks just as much as before.

Well tell that to David Aardsma as well, because apparently our middle relief thinks it's funny to give the Royals hope.

this bullpen blows, we better make a reliever out of Buchholz or use Masterson in the pen.

Alas the game is won and the baseball gods are pleased thanks to the heroic efforts of JD Drew, Mike Lowell, and the demon-possessed Jonathan Papelbon.
Here's to the Yanks falling to the O's and the West Coast quaking (no pun intended) in terror.

i really don't understand Dice-k, he is 8-0 and has a nice era, but his peripherals are awful, he is not looking like number 2 starter right now, the gods of babip will knock him down soon and it's going to be ugly to watch.

I think Dice-k needs one or two quick innings per game and he'll be fine, remember he doesn't give a lot of hits!!

that's not going to last, he is not giving up a lot of hits because his babip is microscopic, believe me it will go up.

Hey, some hitters/pitchers are able to defy the BABIP gods. Dice-K might be one of them.

Evan,
I have a question for you: What will it takes from theo to get Streets from the A's? is a combination of masterson, lowrie (as 2nd baseman) or Crisp enough for billy beane? ('cause this bullpen is really bad and needs to get fixed)

hey radio, no lowrie, no masterson, and right about now no Crisp for Street or anyone, and I am a Street fan who sees a papelbon, street, oki pen as an answer. Problem is, Masterston and Lowrie are the answers for other issues. The Pen doesn't blow. Just ups and downs.

I like this team now ... No thank you in that trade for street. I would not give up Lowrie, Masterson, anyone young and good for Street. I bet we can grab some middle relief down the trade deadline for much less than that.

Gerry,
Street ain't happening. We'd have to give up... probably Lowrie and Hansen. I'm not a fan of that. Beane does covet Crisp, though. If Theo exhausts all options by the deadline, I could see a Crisp/Street deal, but I think some other team will cave and offer more.
